Aurora Borealis Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center

Lions in Alaska have been collecting eyeglasses for several years. In 2004, they began their fully-operational Lions eyeglass recycling center in North Pole, Alaska. They process approximately 40,000 pairs of eyeglasses per year and send out approximately 30,000 to eye care missions. In 2007, The Aurora Borealis Lions Foundation purchased a building which has become the home to Aurora Borealis Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center.

The Lions of Multiple District 49 secured a matching Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF) grant to create a fully equipped contemporary eye doctor’s office where the needy will receive eye exams and ultimately a pair of one of our recycled eyeglasses or a voucher for a new pair of eyeglasses. The center is sponsored by Multiple District 49 (Districts 49-A and 49-B).
