Kenai Lions Club Eyecare Programs
List of projects our club does for eye care etc.
1. Vision screenings in public and private schools, both elementary and secondary.
2. Community adult testing for readers at Kenai Senior Center, annual food bank picnic, and testing at the Kenaitze Center.
3. Assisting parents who have no or inadequate insurance to cover the cost of eyeglasses and examinations.
4. Assist school nurses with required optical health screening in schools.
5. Hand out sunglasses and provide readers as needed at community screening events.
6. Collect out-of-date prescription glasses and send them to the recycling facility in Fairbanks.
7. Have done vision screenings at the Ninilchik State Fair a few times in years past.
Juneau Mendenhall Flying Lions of Alaska Joint Sight Conservation Committee
The Capital Area Lions Joint Sight Conservation Committee (aka Joint Sight Committee) is composed of Lion members from the Juneau Lions Club and the Juneau Mendenhall Flying Lions Club. The purpose of the committee is to:
- provide glasses to the needy, as determined by the committee, particularly children of school age;
- provide assistance for the visually impaired;
- cooperate with other organizations interested in sight conservation; and
- further legislation for the visually impaired in the Capital area.
The Joint Sight Committee assists the community with financial assistance for eye exams and eyeglasses when one cannot afford them and after certain criteria have been met.
